importing pictures question

Under windows XP when I imported pictures from a digital camera using the wizard, it displayed thumbnails of the pictures, then I could select a group of pictures then give them a common name and import them to a selected folder and then XP would import and sequence them. When that was finished then I could go back repeat the process for another group of pictures. Can this be done in Vista? If so, how?
